FIX: Disconnect and Disconnect All Actions in Query Analyzer Do Not Close All Connections to SQL Server (328694)

SYMPTOMS

When you select the Disconnect or the Disconnect All action in the File menu of SQL Query Analyzer, all the query windows are closed. However, the connection to SQL Server remains active through the Object Browser. The Object Browser feature is only available in the Query Analyzer that is provided with SQL Server 2000. However, you can use the Object Browser when you make connections to Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 and Microsoft SQL Server 6.5 instances.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft SQL Server 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

NOTE: The following hotfix was created before the release of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
This problem was first corrected in Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3.

To close all Query Analyzer connections to SQL Server, hide the Object Browser. To hide the Object Browser, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Object Browser, and then click Show/Hide.
  2. On the File menu, click Disconnect. To close all the query windows, click Disconnect All.
The Object Browser is now hidden, unless a new connection is made to SQL Server.
