Exchange Database Dismounts When Exchange Database File Is Four Gigabytes (328679)

SYMPTOMS

The Exchange database may dismount, and you may receive the following entry in the Event log:

Description:
Information Store (2512) An attempt to write to the file "C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\SG02-DATA\MDBDATA\SG2PRIV1.edb" at offset 4294963200 (0x00000000fffff000) for 405504 (0x00063000) bytes failed with system error 112 (0x00000070): "There is not enough space on the disk.". The write operation will fail with error -1808 (0xfffff8f0). If this error persists then the file may be damaged and may need to be restored from a previous backup.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if you are using a FAT32 partition, and the Exchange database file is approaching four gigabytes (GB). The issue occurs because the FAT32 file system has a maximum permitted file size of 4 GB.

NOTE: Although FAT32 supports 32 GB partitions, the maximum file size is 4 GB.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, convert the partition to an NTFS file system to support file sizes that are larger than 4GB.
