XADM: Problems When Antivirus Software Tries to Delete Files in the Exchsrvr\Imcdata Folder (328667)

SYMPTOMS

When you view the Application log, you may find entries that are similar to the following entries:

Description:
The error code 2 was returned when trying to remove the spool file C:\EXCHSRVR\imcdata\in\PNACV905. This file may cause duplicate mail to be sent when the server is restarted.

Description:
Failure setting file attributes on file C:\EXCHSRVR\imcdata\in\PNACV905. The error code returned was The system cannot find the file specified. This is an unexpected error and the IMS is shutting down.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if your antivirus software scans and tries to delete files in the c:\Exchsrvr\Imcdata folder.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue:
  1. Exclude the c:\Exchsrvr\Imcdata folder and its subfolders from being scanned by your antivirus software.
  2. Restart the Exchange Internet Mail service:
    1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Manage.
    2. Expand the Services and Application object, and then click Services.
    3. Right-click Microsoft Exchange Internet Mail Service, and then click Restart.
