Delay May Occur on the ATAPI Bus When You Change ATAPI Devices (328624)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
This article was previously published under Q328624 SUMMARY
When you add or remove ATAPI devices (such as an IDE hard disk or an IDE CD-ROM drive), multiple hard bus resets may occur on the channel on which the device change occurs.
MORE INFORMATION
The hard bus resets are initiated by the Atapi.sys driver when a physical device change occurs. To redetect some devices that do not properly report the ATA Identify Data information, Windows issues a hard reset with from 10 to 20 recurring iterations before the device is identified correctly. This behavior may cause a noticeable delay during the redetection process.
