Interix Users May Not Be Able to Delete Their Own Files (328350)

SYMPTOMS

If a user has Modify rights on a folder, that user may not be able to delete files that the user created in the Interix subsystem. For example, in the following sequence of commands, the rm command might not work:

touch filename
rm filename

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

The English version of this fix has the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, the user can use the Interix utilities to set the appropriate permissions on the folder before trying to delete the file. For example:

chmod u+w foldername
rm foldername/filename

STATUS

This problem was corrected in Interix 3.0.
