SYMPTOMS

When you try to start Microsoft Project 2000 after you have installed Office XP, you may be prompted for your Office 2000 installation CD.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Office XP Setup removes several Office 2000 shared components that Microsoft Project 2000 requires. When the location of these files is not available, Windows prompts you for the Office 2000 installation CD so that the files can be replaced.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Provide the Office 2000 Installation CD

Provide the Office 2000 installation CD or a path to the Office 2000 installation files when you are prompted. After the shared components are replaced, you will no longer experience the symptoms that are described in this article.

Method 2: Repair Microsoft Project 2000

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. If you are in Classic view, click Switch to Category View under Control Panel in the left pane.
  3. Click Add or Remove Programs.
  4. In the list of currently installed programs, click Microsoft Project 2000, and then click Change.
  5. After Microsoft Project 2000 Setup starts, click Repair, and then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process.
