SYMPTOMS

When you try to start a macro in Word 2000, you may receive the following error message:
Errors occurred during load. The macro cannot be found or has been disabled because of macro security settings.
When you try to open the Microsoft Visual Basic Editor while a template is open, you may receive the following error message:
Could not open macro storage.
You cannot use the following actions to resolve this issue:
  • Changing the macro security setting to Medium or Low.
  • Selecting the option to trust the macro's source.

CAUSE

This error may occur if the Microsoft Forms 2.0 Object Library is not selected as a reference to the problem-causing macro.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, add a reference from the Fm20.dll file to the Forms 2.0 Object Library through the Visual Basic Editor:
  1. Search for the Fm20.dll file on your computer. If you find the file, go to the "Select the Microsoft Forms 2.0 Object Library As a Reference" section of this article. If you cannot find the file, continue to the next step.
  2. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  3. In the list of installed programs, click Microsoft Office 2000, and then click Change.
  4. In the Setup dialog box, click Repair Office, and then click Next.
  5. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the repair process.
  6. Test to determine if the issue is resolved. If the issue is resolved, skip the remaining steps. If the issue is not resolved, continue to the next step.
  7. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  8. In the list of installed programs, click Microsoft Office 2000, and then click Remove.
  9. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the removal process.
  10. While you press and hold down the SHIFT key, insert your Microsoft Office 2000 CD-ROM.
  11. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  12. Click Add New Programs, and then click CD or Floppy.
  13. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation process.
  14. Test to determine if the issue is resolved. If the issue is resolved, skip the remaining steps. If the issue is not resolved, continue to the next step.
  15. Click Start, click Run, type msconfig, and then click OK.
  16. On the General tab, click Expand File.
  17. Click Browse File.
  18. Locate the Fm20.dll file, click this file, and then click Open.
  19. In the Restore from box, click your CD-ROM drive letter.
  20. In the Save file in box, click Browse To.
  21. In the Browse for Folder dialog box, click the Drive:\System folder or the Drive:\Windows\System folder, and then click OK. Drive is the drive on which Office 2000 is installed.
  22. Click Expand.
  23. Click OK to quit the System Configuration Utility dialog box.

Select the Microsoft Forms 2.0 Object Library As a Reference

  1. In Word 2000, point to Macro on the Tools menu, and then click Visual Basic Editor.
  2. On the Tools menu, click References.
  3. Click Browse, and then locate the Fm20.dll file in the System or System32 folder.
  4. Click the Fm20.dll file, and then click Open.
  5. In the list of references, click to select the Microsoft Forms 2.0 Object Library check box, and then click OK.
  6. On the File menu, click Close and Return to Microsoft Word.
  7. Quit, and then restart Word 2000.
  8. Restart the problem-causing macro in Word 2000.
