XCCC: Content Restrictions Are Not Applied to TURN or ATRN Domains (328134)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server SP1
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server SP2
This article was previously published under Q328134 SYMPTOMS
Content restrictions, such as maximum message size, are not applied when the following conditions are true:
- The messages are meant for a Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) connector.
- The Queue messages for remote triggered delivery option is configured for the SMTP connector.
- The messages are submitted by mailboxes that are homed on the SMTP connector bridgehead server.
CAUSE
This issue occurs because content restrictions are enforced during the routing process. When the messages are delivered locally or to TURN or Authenticated TURN (ATRN) domains, they do not go through routing, and therefore, the restrictions are not enforced.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, use one of the following methods, and then configure the remote domain to send TURN and ATRN messages to port 26 of the Exchange 2000 server:
- Put the SMTP connector on a connector server that does not have any mailboxes.
-or- - Create another SMTP virtual server on your server computer, and then put the SMTP connector on the new SMTP virtual server.
