IIS: MMC Permits Too Many Characters for FTP Welcome Message (328132)

SYMPTOMS

When you connect to a Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) or Internet Information Services (IIS) computer that is running the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Publishing Service that is configured with a Welcome message, only part of the message is displayed.

CAUSE

The FTP Publishing Service sends a maximum of 1,023 characters of the Welcome message to the client.

WORKAROUND

Limit the Welcome message to 1,023 characters or less.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
