SYMPTOMS

When you check out a Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 presentation, a Microsoft Word 2002 document or a Microsoft Excel 2002 document that is hosted on a SharePoint Portal Server server, you may receive the following SharePoint Portal Server error message:
Document is not checked out by you. To open this document for editing, click Check Out.

Selecting Read-Only or Check Out can unexpectedly cause the Microsoft Visual Basic Editor window to appear, and the editor may not display any toolbars or Project Explorer.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Office XP Service Pack that contains this fix.
