- Microsoft Small Business Server 2000 SP1
This article was previously published under Q327988 SYMPTOMS
When you try to install Small Business Server (SBS) 2000 Service Pack 1 (SP1), you may receive the following error message:
Service Pack 1 (SP1) Setup requires 125 MB of disk space on the drive containing the ClientApps shared folder in order to deploy Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 to client computers. Delete unnecessary files to free up disk space, and then run SP1 Setup again.
You may receive this error message even though you have plenty of free space on the hard disk.
CAUSE
This problem occurs if the ClientApps5 shared folder has been either deleted or moved incorrectly.
RESOLUTIONWARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may
require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve
problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own
risk.
If the ClientApps5 shared folder has been deleted, re-create the folder to resolve this problem:
- Create a folder that is named ClntApps at the root of one of your hard disk partitions.
The ClientApps5 folder may require over 500 megabytes (MB) of free space if all of the programs are included in the folder. - Create a subfolder in the ClntApps folder that is named ClientApps5.
- Share the new location. To do so:
- Right-click the ClientApps5 folder, and then click Sharing.
- Click Share this folder.
- Accept the default share name of ClientApps5, and then add a comment to the share if you want. (The comment that is added by the SBS 2000 Setup program is "Small Business Client Applications.")
- Accept the default share permissions (Everyone: Full Control), and then click Apply to save the changes.
NOTE: Make sure that you share the ClientApps5 folder and not the ClntApps parent folder above it. You must share the folder for the installation scripts to work correctly.
- With the dialog box from step 3 still open, click the Security tab, and then set the following NTFS file system permissions on the ClientApps5 folder:
Administrators: Full Control
Users: Read
- Start Registry Editor (Regedt32).
- Locate and then click the following subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\BackOffice\SBSClients - Double-click the ParentDirectory value in the right pane, change the value to the new path for the ClientApps5 shared folder, and then click OK to save the settings.
To correctly move the client programs folder:
- Stop sharing the client programs folder (by default, this folder is the C:\ClntApps\ClientApps5 folder). To do so:
- Start Windows Explorer, right-click the ClientApps5 folder, and then click Sharing.
- Click Do not share this folder, and then click OK.
- Using Windows Explorer, move the whole folder tree to the new location.
- With the dialog box from step 3 still open, click the Security tab, and then set the following NTFS permissions on the ClientApps5 folder:
Administrators: Full Control
Users: Read
- Start Registry Editor (Regedt32).
- Locate and then click the following subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\BackOffice\SBSClients - Double-click the ParentDirectory value in the right pane, change the value to the new path for the ClientApps5 shared folder, and then click OK to save the settings.
