FIX: You receive a "Leaving Secure Connection" error message when you use LinkButton in DataGrid and SSL (327418)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0 SP1
  • Microsoft Visual Studio .NET (2002), Professional Edition

This article was previously published under Q327418

SYMPTOMS

When you try to visit ASP.NET Web pages that were developed with an embedded LinkButton column in a DataGrid control, you wrongly receive the following message in Microsoft Internet Explorer:
You are about to leave a secure Internet connection. It will be possible for others to view information you send. Do you want to continue?
This problem occurs only when the page is encrypted by using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).

CAUSE

This problem occurs because there is a second colon (:) in the URI of the HREF attribute, which calls the parameter for __doPostBack.

When an ASP.NET LinkButton control is embedded in other controls such as DataGrid, the client JavaScript that the control renders to the browser contains code that resembles the following:
__doPostBack('UC2:UC1:LinkButton1','')
The second colon (just before LinkButton1) signals to Internet Explorer that you are leaving an encrypted channel.

RESOLUTION

This hotfix is targeted for Microsoft .NET Framework Service Pack 1 (SP1), so it installs only on top of SP1. For computers that have .NET Framework SP2 installed, this hotfix is included in the following hotfix rollup:
