  • Microsoft Server Appliance Kit (SAK), version 2.0
  • Microsoft Windows 2000, when used with:
    • the operating system: Microsoft Windows 2000 SP3

This article was previously published under Q327376

SYMPTOMS

After you install Windows 2000 Service Pack 3, and then you create a Windows or a Netware share with default settings, the following error message occurs:
EVERYONE group is not valid
However, the share does create successfully. You can remove and you can add the Everyone group to the share permissions, and there is no error.

CAUSE

When checking for account existence, some built-in account names exclude the domain prefix. For example the account name may display as "Everyone" instead of "\machine name\Everyone". This prevents the account from being recognized.
