XADM: White Paper - Exchange 2000 Recipient Management (326139)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server

This article was previously published under Q326139

SUMMARY

Managing recipients in Exchange 2000 is significantly different from managing recipients in previous versions of Exchange Server. Exchange 2000 introduces new features and it is integrated with Microsoft Windows Active Directory, which accounts for many of the changes. Windows user accounts and Exchange 2000 recipients are merged conceptually and managed by using the same interface. The establishment of recipient policies and improvements in address lists provide more administrative flexibility.

However, as with other components in Exchange 2000, recipient management functionality is restricted in mixed-mode environments where previous versions of Exchange Server are present. This white paper describes how to perform familiar tasks, use the new features, and successfully maintain coexistence of Exchange 2000 and Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5.

The recommendations made in this white paper assume that you are using the Windows 2000 Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in to manage your recipients and the System Manager snap-in in Exchange 2000 to manage your Exchange 2000 servers.
