SUMMARY

If you are an Exchange 2000 administrator, you can set client permissions to control how a public folder that is published to the Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP) appears to individual users. Each public folder has a property called Folder Visible. If this permission is not granted to a user, that user cannot view that public folder in an NNTP client such as Microsoft Outlook Express. However, in Exchange 2000, you must perform one more step to make the Folder Visible property setting take effect.

MORE INFORMATION

To make the Folder Visible property setting take effect, use the following procedure to restrict visibility of the NNTP virtual server.
  1. Start Exchange System Manager, and then locate the NNTP virtual server that you are using.
  2. Click Virtual Properties.
  3. In the right pane, right-click the Default virtual directory, and then click Properties.
  4. On the General tab, click to select the Restrict newsgroup visibility check box.
  5. Click OK to save the settings.
  6. Restart the NNTP virtual server.
After you have completed these steps, the Folder Visible property restricts access to any user who views the newsgroup that does not have this permission. For additional information about the NNTP protocol, click the article numbers below to view the articles in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
