The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft PowerPoint X for Mac
- Microsoft Excel X for Mac
This article was previously published under Q325191 SYMPTOMS
When you use a Windows-based computer to open a PowerPoint presentation that was created by using PowerPoint X for Mac, the pictures or charts may not appear in the presentation. Instead, a red X may appear instead of each picture or chart.
CAUSE
This behavior may occur if the following scenario is true:
- You create an XY (scatter) chart in Excel X for Mac by using the Scatter with data points connected by smoothed Lines pattern.
- You type values in the Value (X) axis and the Value (Y) axis boxes for the X and Y axis titles.
- You copy the chart and then paste it into a PowerPoint X for Mac presentation.
- You open the PowerPoint X for Mac presentation by using Microsoft PowerPoint 2000 or Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 on a Windows-based computer.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, do not type values in the Value (X) axis and the Value (Y) axis boxes for the X and Y axis titles in Excel. Instead, paste the chart into your PowerPoint presentation, and then add titles to the chart by using text boxes in PowerPoint.
