Power Meter Hangs During Charge/Discharge on Dual-Battery Computer (324316)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition

This article was previously published under Q324316

SYMPTOMS

The Power Meter tool may stop responding (hang), and may not indicate accurate remaining battery life when you remove AC power from the computer. This problem may occur when one battery is at the critical level (less than 2 percent power remaining) and the other battery is below 10 percent.

WORKAROUND

The best way to avoid this problem is not to permit the second battery to fall below 10 percent remaining power. If the power meter indicates 10 percent for one battery and indicates a critical status for the other, save all of your work, shut down the computer, and recharge the batteries as soon as you can.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
