This article explains how to start playing a custom course that was created by using the Arnold Palmer Course Designer that is included with Microsoft Links 2001. By default, if you create a custom course with the Arnold Palmer Course Designer and then save it, the program saves the course in a custom course folder. This folder is separate from the folder where Links courses are stored. To play a custom course, you must first add the course to Links.

NOTE: To add the custom course to the Links folder when you create the course, click Save As on the File menu, and then specify the following folder in the Save in box

drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Links 2001\Courses

where drive is the drive on which Links 2001 is installed.

To add a custom course to Links, use either of the following methods.

Method 1: Move the Custom Course to the Links 2001 Courses Folder

  1. Start Windows Explorer, and then locate and open the following folder

    drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Arnold Palmer Course Designer\Courses

    where drive is the drive on which Links 2001 is installed.
  2. Right-click the course that you want to play, and then click Copy.

    NOTE: Courses use .crz for their file name extension.
  3. Locate and open the following folder

    drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Links 2001\Courses

    where drive is the drive on which Links 2001 is installed.
  4. On the Edit menu, click Paste.
The course is now available on the Course Manager screen.

Method 2: Use the Course Manager to Copy the Custom Course

  1. Start Links 2001.
  2. On the Links 2001 main menu screen, click Play Golf.
  3. On the Play Golf screen, click New Round.
  4. Click Course Manager.
  5. On the Course Manager screen, click Add.
  6. In the Add Course Browser dialog box, locate and open the following folder

    drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Arnold Palmer Course Designer\Courses

    where drive is the drive on which Links 2001 is installed.
  7. Click the course that you want to add, and then click Add.
  8. In the Copy Course dialog box, click Yes.
  9. In the list of courses on the Course Manager screen, click your course, and then click OK.
