The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
- Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition
- Microsoft Windows 98
This article was previously published under Q323858 SYMPTOMS
On laptop computers that support multiple monitors, the screen resolution for the primary monitor may change to 1,400 X 1,048 pixels (instead of the actual value of 1,400 X 1,050 pixels) after you turn on support for the secondary monitor.
CAUSE
After you extend the desktop to the secondary monitor, Windows incorrectly calculates the screen resolution and changes the resolution to 1,400 X 1,048 pixels even if this setting is not listed by the video adapter driver as a supported screen resolution.
WORKAROUND
Currently, there are no known issues that result from this small reduction in the screen resolution. However, if any problem occur, you can select a different screen resolution (such as 1,024 X 768) manually.
MORE INFORMATION
This issue occurs only if you set the screen resolution to 1,400 X 1,050 pixels and you turn on support for the secondary video adapter. The incorrect value of 1,400 X 1,048 pixels is set on both monitors. This problem is not specific to any laptop computer or video chipset that supports multiple monitors.
