SYMPTOMS

If you create a system policy that specifies mailbox size warning limits, and you leave the schedule for this policy at the default setting (which is Run daily at midnight), that policy may not start, and users may not receive the storage limit notifications.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you leave the box for the schedule unchanged. The following attributes are not written to the system policy in Active Directory:
  • Quota Notification Style (quotaNotificationStyle)
  • Quota Notification Schedule (quotaNotificationSchedule)
The Store.exe process seems to skip this policy. No messages about this problem are logged in the Application event log.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, when you create the system policy, change the schedule to an option other than the default option, and then apply the policy.

If you then want the schedule to work at the default setting of Run daily at midnight, after you have created the schedule with an option other than this default option, you can edit the policy to change the schedule to Run daily at midnight.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.

Microsoft is researching this problem and will post more information in this article when the information becomes available.
