You receive an "Error 2717" error message when you try to install Microsoft Project Server 2002 (323337)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Microsoft Project Server 2002, you may receive the following error message:
Microsoft Project Server 2002 Setup Error 2717. An internal error has occurred. (InstallFinalize)
If you click OK to close the error message, you receive the following message:
Microsoft Project 2002 Setup Installation ended prematurely because of an error.
Microsoft Project Setup does not continue.

CAUSE

This problem may be caused by components of beta versions of Microsoft Project Server that remain on the server.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Component Services.
  2. In Component Services, expand Computers, expand My Computer, and then expand COM+ Applications.
  3. Click the first program that has a name that starts with "MS Project Server", and then press DELETE.
  4. Click Yes to confirm the deletion.
  5. Repeat steps 3 through 4 for all remaining programs with names that start with "MS Project Server".
  6. Quit Component Services.
  7. Restart Microsoft Project Server Setup.
