XCON: Exchange Server 5.5 Cannot Respond to Link State Queries (323251)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5
This article was previously published under Q323251 SYMPTOMS
In an organization that runs both Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server and Exchange Server 5.5 in a mixed environment, if an Exchange Server 5.5 computer is turned off but still has connectors created on it, Exchange 2000 may still try to route e-mail messages to or through the offline connector.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because Exchange Server cannot respond to the link state queries that originate from Exchange 2000. As a result, connectors created on Exchange Server always appear to be online in link state routing.
RESOLUTION
Before you turn off an Exchange Server computer in a mixed Exchange 2000 organization, remove all of the connector address spaces, and then wait for replication to be complete. This process informs Exchange 2000 that the connectors that are defined on Exchange Server do not exist. After you do so, Exchange 2000 does not try to route e-mail messages through those connectors.
