The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
This article was previously published under Q321808 SYMPTOMS
When you try to put your computer into hibernation or on standby, you may receive the following error message:
The device driver for the "generic volume" device is preventing the system
from entering standby. Please close all applications and try again. If the problem persists, you may need to update this driver.
CAUSE
This behavior may occur if Adaptec Corporation's Take Two backup software is installed on the computer.
RESOLUTION
Because of a driver that Take Two requires, you cannot use the Suspend feature if Take Two is installed. To resolve this problem, you must remove Take Two. To do so, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- In the list of programs currently installed, click Adaptec Take Two, and then click Add/Remove. Follow the instructions to remove this program.
