Number in Attachment File Name Increases When Attached to CMS Placeholder (321116)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Content Management Server 2001 SP1

This article was previously published under Q321116

SYMPTOMS

When you try to replace an attachment in a placeholder by using a Web Browser Client (WBC) interface in Content Management Server (CMS) 2001, the number at the end of the file name is incremented. This behavior is only observed when you replace attachments that are stored on a local drive and not from Resource Gallery in the CMS database. For example, when you replace Filename_2002.pdf and Filename.doc, the displayed file names and URLs are Filename_2003.pdf and Filename1.doc.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Log on to the CMS 2001 WBC and locate the page.
  2. Enter Edit mode with the account of a user who can edit the page.
  3. Delete the attachments that are to be replaced.
  4. Perform a Save and Exit command on the Web Author Client.
  5. Enter Edit mode again to upload the attachments.

MORE INFORMATION

The number increment does not continue infinitely. It typically stops after two or three incrementations.
