When you try to deploy a Remote Installation Services (RIS) image that you created by using Riprep.exe to a client computer, you may receive the following error message:
Setup cannot copy the operating system image you selected.
This computer does not have enough disk space on the selected partition.

CAUSE
This issue may occur if either of the following conditions exist: - The hard disk on the source computer is larger than the hard disk on the destination computer. The disk volume information is contained in the Imirror.dat file during the creation of the RIS image, and is stored on the RIS server for that image.
- The master boot record (MBR) contains a protected partition type of either type 0x12 EISA, type 0xDE Dell Diagnostic, or type 0x84 Suspend to disk (S2D). Windows Setup leaves these partition types intact, and if the remaining disk space is too small to hold the RIS image, you will receive the error message.
Note The type 0x12, type 0xDE, or type 0x84 do not have to be legitimate partitions. If the MBR contains entries that are not valid, and the 0x12, 0xDE, or 0x84 bytes happen to be in any of the systemID byte offsets, the total sectors for that partition are subtracted from the total capacity of the drive. This condition may cause the error.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, use the method that is associated with the cause:
- Re-create the RIS image on a smaller hard disk.
- Install a larger hard disk on the destination computer. The hard disk must be as large as or larger than the hard disk in the source computer.
- Wipe out the MBR by using a disk partitioning utility so that the whole drive is unallocated free space.
STATUSThis behavior is by design.
