SYMPTOMS

When you edit a Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) e-mail message in Outlook Express, you click Source Edit on the View menu, and then click the Source tab. If the e-mail message contains double-byte character set (DBCS) characters, text that you copy from the Source tab may not be correct.

This problem may occur on a computer with the regional settings set to a language that uses DBCS characters, such as the Chinese (PRC) option.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, save the e-mail message as an HTML file, use Microsoft Notepad to open the message, and then copy the necessary text in Notepad.

To save an e-mail message in Outlook Express as an HTML file:
  1. Open the e-mail message that you want to save as an HTML file, click File, and then click Save As.
  2. In the Save Message As dialog box, click HTML Files (*.htm,*.html) in the Save as type list. Type an appropriate file name in the File name combo box, and then select the location in which you want to save the file.
  3. Click Save.
After you save the e-mail message as an HTML file, you can use Notepad to open the file, and then copy the necessary text in Notepad.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
