TTS Not Supported with Digital Rights Manager Level 5 Books (320255)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Reader version 2.0

This article was previously published under Q320255

SYMPTOMS

When you try to open an eBook with Microsoft Reader Text-to-Speech (TTS) Package 1.0 installed, you may receive the following error message:
Text to Speech functionality cannot be used with Owner-Exclusive ebooks...

WORKAROUND

The reseller or retailer can give a particular customer a level 2 or 3 version of the book so that the TTS engine can read the eBook.

MORE INFORMATION

TTS permits you to listen to any sealed or inscribed eBook in your library by using a synthetic speech engine. Note that although the majority of titles that are presently available in Microsoft Reader format work with the TTS feature, most of the "premium content," or Owner-Exclusive titles, have been published in a format that does not allow TTS.

NOTE: At present, TTS is only enabled for PC desktop or laptop versions.
