SYMPTOMS

When you want to display the ACL by using the standard Explorer.exe user interface, there may be a long delay while the SIDs are mapped to account names. This occurs only if you have set the ACL for local accounts, and if your computer name exceeds 15 characters.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because a function that is implemented in Aclui.dll uses a variable that is incorrectly sized.

RESOLUTION

Service Pack Information

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. To work around this problem, use a computer name that contains less than 15 characters.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.
