Error Messages When You Install or Start Internet Explorer 5.01 (319331)

SYMPTOMS

When you install or start Internet Explorer 5.01, you may receive an error message similar to one of the following:
Olemainthrdwnd name icwconn1.exe
application error 0x00000018
-or-
access violation
iexplore.exe 0xc0000005 at address 0x77f88a87

CAUSE

This problem may occur if Remote Access Service (RAS) is corrupted.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Remove RAS.
  2. Reinstall RAS.

    NOTE: If you do not use RAS, you can omit this step.
  3. Reapply the latest service pack for Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, and then restart the computer.
