XADM: Setup Stops with Error 0xc0070035 (319147)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to set up Exchange 2000 on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Setup may not work, and you may receive the following error message:
Setup failed while installing sub-component Microsoft Exchange Server-Level Objects with error code 0xC0070035 (please consult the installation logs for a detailed description). You may cancel the installation or try the failed step again.
The Exchange Server Setup Progress log file (which can be found in the root of the boot partition) may contain entries that are similar to the following:

The important information in these entries is the following:

Error code 0XC0070035 (53): The network path was not found.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if the Remote Registry service is not running. Even though you may be installing Exchange 2000 locally, to correctly install Exchange 2000, it must have remote access to the registry.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, start the Windows 2000 Server Remote Registry service, and then click the Retry button in the error message. If you have already stopped Setup, you must start Setup again.
