OFFXPDEV: You Have No Start Menu Shortcut to the HTML Help Workshop (319009)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office XP Developer

This article was previously published under Q319009

SYMPTOMS

Even though you selected the HTML Help 1.3 SDK option when you installed Office XP Developer, you have no shortcuts for the HTML Help Workshop on the Start menu.

CAUSE

The shortcuts are not properly created during the Setup process.

RESOLUTION

Although the shortcuts are not created automatically, the files that you need to create them are installed by default to the following location:

C:\Program Files\HTML Help Workshop\

Therefore, you can manually create shortcuts to the HTML Help Workshop files. To do so, follow these steps.

In Microsoft Windows 98 and Microsoft Millennium Edition (Me)

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Taskbar and Start Menu to display the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialog box.
  2. Click the Advanced tab, and then click the Advanced button to open Windows Explorer.
  3. In Windows Explorer, double-click the Programs folder to open it.
  4. On the File menu, point to New, and then click Folder. Name the folder HTML Help Workshop.
  5. Open the HTML Help Workshop folder that you just created.
  6. On the File menu, point to New, and then click Shortcut.
  7. In the Create Shortcut dialog box, click Browse. Locate the C:\Program Files\Html Help Workshop\ folder. In this folder, click the file Hhw.exe, and then click OK to create the first shortcut. Name the first shortcut HTML Help Workshop.
  8. Repeat steps 6 and 7, but this time, click the file Flash.exe to create the second shortcut. Name the second shortcut HTML Image Editor. Then, quit Windows Explorer.

In Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, Microsoft Windows 2000, and Microsoft Windows XP

  1. Right-click the Start button, and then click Open All Users.
  2. Follow steps 3 through 8 in the "Microsoft Windows 98 and Microsoft Millennium Edition" section earlier in this article to create the HTML Help Workshop shortcuts.
The new shortcuts are the same as those that are provided by Microsoft Office Developer 2000.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
