This article was previously published under Q318843 SYMPTOMS When you use Microsoft Money to open a Money backup file or a Money data file, Money prompts you to enter a password even though you have not assigned a password to your file.CAUSEThis behavior may occur if the backup file or the data file is from a version of Money that is later than the version of Money that you are trying to use. Microsoft Money 2006 is the most current version of Money that is available.WORKAROUND To work around this behavior, install the latest version of Money that corresponds to the version of your data file, or install the most current version of Microsoft Money.
Money is designed to be backward compatible with earlier Money data files. For example, if you currently have Money 2006 installed on your computer, you should be able to open a Microsoft Money 2004 data file. Note Different versions of Money data files use different file extensions when the files are converted. You can use the following table to determine the version of Money that corresponds to your data file: Money 2005 | *.m14 | Money 2004 | *.m12 | Money 2003 | *.m11 | Money 2002 | *.m10 | Money 2001 | *.mn9 | Money 2000 | *.mn8 | Money 99 | *.mn7 | Money 98 | *.mn6 |
STATUSThis
behavior is by design.
