Text Overlaps When You View Excel Spreadsheets That Are Saved as HTML Files (318727)

SYMPTOMS

If you use Internet Explorer 6 to view Microsoft Excel 2000 or Microsoft Excel 2002 files that are saved as HTML files, you may see overlapping text.

CAUSE

The Internet Explorer 6 Mshtml.dll code contains code that writes some lines of text but does not increment the line counter at the end of each "chunk" of text. Therefore, when many lines of text are being written, overlapping text may be written at various intervals.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows XP Service Pack 1.
