PRJ2000: "Required Registry Information Is Missing" Error When You Register Microsoft Project (318283)

SYMPTOMS

When you start Microsoft Project 2000 for the first time, and you attempt to register by using the Registration Wizard, you receive the following error message:
Required registry information is missing and this application cannot run. Please run setup to correct this problem.

CAUSE

The registration keys for Microsoft Project 2000 were not created in the registry during Setup, or contain invalid entries.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, reset the information in the appropriate Microsoft Windows Installer registry keys. To do this, follow these steps.

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
  3. In the left pane of Registry Editor, locate and select the following subkey (folder):

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Common\LV

  4. In the right pane, click the entry that matches your Product Identification (PID) number for Microsoft Project 2000.

    NOTE: The PID number for Microsoft Project 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1) begins with 54864. The PID number for Microsoft Project 2000 without the SR-1 update begins with 52207.
  5. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click Yes to confirm the deletion.
  6. In the left pane, click the plus sign (+) to expand the LV folder, and then click the 0001 folder.
  7. Repeat steps 4 and 5.
  8. On the File menu, click Exit.
  9. Start Microsoft Project 2000.

    You are prompted to register the product.
