SYMPTOMS

When you type accented characters or extended characters in the English U.S. version of Office v. X for Mac, the characters may not appear correctly in the document.

You may see this behavior more frequently if the keyboard layout and Office program are set to a language other than English U.S.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use one or more of the following methods:
  • Press the key combination twice, before you press the character key. For example, to insert an accented e, press OPTION+e, OPTION+e, and then e.
  • Use the Times font.
  • Set the font, and then disable or hide the Formatting Palette and the Formatting toolbar.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
