XL2000: Contents of PivotTable Disappear When Data Is Updated in a Different Language Version of Excel (316479)
The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q316479 SYMPTOMS In Microsoft Excel, if you create a PivotTable that is
based on multiple consolidation ranges, open the file in a different language
version of Excel, and then update the data, the contents of the PivotTable
disappear. CAUSE With multiple consolidation ranges, Excel uses internal
field names (for example, Column, Row) that are localized in each language
version. When you update the data in a different language version, Excel cannot
translate the internal field names and therefore cannot locate the correct
data. RESOLUTION To resolve this problem, obtain the latest
service pack for Microsoft Office 2000. For additional information, click the
following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: 276367 OFF2000: How to Obtain the Latest Office 2000 Service Pack The English version of this fix should have the
following file attributes or later:
Date Time Version Size File name
-------------------------------------------------------
28-JAN-2002 9:37 n/a 1,848,012 Excel.msp
28-JAN-2002 10:38 n/a 4,462,956 Excel_admin.msp
After the hotfix is installed, the following file will have the
listed attributes or later:
Date Time Version Size File name
-------------------------------------------------------
25-JAN-2002 14:27 9.0.0.6124 7,159,853 Excel.exe
This fix is activated by means of the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Excel\Options Name: QFE_Zurich Type: DWORD VALUE: 1
STATUSMicrosoft
has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
at the beginning of this article.
This problem was first corrected in
Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP-3).MORE INFORMATION This fix forces localized versions of Excel 2000 to use the
English strings--for example, Column or Row--instead of the corresponding
localized strings.
PivotTables that were created before this fix is
installed will not be affected by the fix. To correct an existing PivotTable,
you must recreate it.
Additionally, the fix causes the data to be
lost when you open a PivotTable that was created in a patched, non-English
version of Excel in a non-patched, non-English version of Excel. This occurs
because the non-patched version cannot interpret the English version of the
internal field names.
