XCLN: An Incorrect Template Is Used to View Distribution List Properties in the "To" Box (316066)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
This article was previously published under Q316066 SYMPTOMS
In a mixed Exchange organization (which contains both Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 computers and Exchange 2000 Server computers), if Exchange 2000 users double-click the name of a distribution list (DL) in the To box of a message, the Contact template may be displayed, not the DL template; therefore, no DL membership is displayed.
This problem may occur if:
- The DL was created either on an Exchange Server 5.5 computer or in Active Directory.
- Exchange 2000 users are members of that DL.
- Exchange Server 5.5 users send a message to that DL.
CAUSE
In a Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) message, the PR_DISPLAY_TYPE tag indicates the type of template that the client uses to display the user information. If messages meet the conditions that are described in the "Symptoms" section of this article, that PR_DISPLAY_TYPE tag is not set in the message properties; therefore, the client uses the default template to display the recipient information. The Contact template is the default template.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, the Exchange 2000 user can create a new e-mail message, and then add the same DL from the global address list to view membership of the DL.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. MORE INFORMATION
This problem is cosmetic and does not limit the functionality of DLs.
