- Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition

This article was previously published under Q314661 SYMPTOMS On a server that has four CPUs, if you upgrade from
Microsoft Windows 2000 Server to Windows Server 2003, the Windows Server 2003
Setup program displays the following error message and then quits:
Exceeded Processor Count
======================== You have more CPUs installed in your machine than
this version of Windows Server supports. If you upgrade, one or more
processors will be disabled. For more information about processor
restrictions in Windows Server, see the Microsoft Web site at
http://www.microsoft.com/. However, if you install Windows Server
2003 as the first Windows-based operating system on a server that has four
CPUs, the Setup program does not warn you that Windows Server 2003 does not
support all four CPUs. The installation completes successfully, but only two of
the four CPUs are supported. WORKAROUND To work around this behavior, install Microsoft Windows
2000 Advanced Server. STATUSThis
behavior is by design.
