The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q314585 SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to enter a task in Microsoft Project, you may receive an error message similar to the following:
The value is not valid. This is not a valid duration, or is outside the range for this field.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if you have the time separator (delimiter) set as a space. A space is not a valid time separator character when you enter time values.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, change the time separator to a space after each of the times has been entered in Microsoft Project. To do this, follow these steps. NOTE: Ensure that all of the times for your current project have been entered before you perform these steps. NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps. - Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
- Click the Date, Time, Language and Regional Options tool.
- Click Regional and Language Options, and then click Customize.
- Click the Time tab.
- Place the pointer in the Time separator box, and then press the SPACEBAR key.
- Click Apply, and then click OK.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
