Windows NT-Based Computers May Drop Fragmented IP Packets During a RAS Connection (314284)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0

This article was previously published under Q314284

SYMPTOMS

Under certain situations, User Datagram Protocol (UDP) network packets may be discarded during a Remote Access Service (RAS) connection.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if a UDP packet is spit into two Internet protocol (IP) fragments and the second fragment arrives before the first because Windows NT-based computers may incorrectly discard the second IP fragment. When this occurs, the UDP packet is discarded.
