SUMMARY

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To enable encryption for password-protected public data conferences, the conferencing administrator must configure the EncryptPasswordConferences registry value on all of the Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server computers that the Conference Management Service is installed on. To do so, you need to edit the registry.

To configure the EncryptPasswordConferences registry value, perform the following steps:
  1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
  2. Locate and click the following key in the registry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Exchange

  3. On the Edit menu, click Add Key, and then add the following value:

    Key Name: Conferencing
    Class: blank

    -and-

    Key Name: Parameters
    Class: blank

  4. On the Edit menu, click Add Key, and then add the following registry value:

Value name: EncryptPasswordConferences Data type: REG_DWORD Radix: Binary Value data: 1

  5. Quit Registry Editor.
  6. Restart the Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server computer for this change to take effect.
NOTE: The Multipoint Control Unit (MCU) must have a valid server certificate installed to support encrypted conferences.

If you do not set the EncryptPasswordConferences registry value on all of the Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server computers in the organization, some users may not be able to join password-protected conferences.

Only clients that use Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 or later and Microsoft NetMeeting 3.01 or later can join encrypted conferences. H.323 clients cannot join encrypted conferences.
