The Workstation Service Does Not Start During a Repair-Mode Upgrade (313912)

SYMPTOMS

If you upgrade a domain member computer in Repair mode, Setup continues in GUI mode after the computer restarts, but the networking components are not installed correctly. You receive an error message that is similar to:
Domain cannot be connected to or joined because the workstation service is not started.

CAUSE

You receive the error message because the Workstation services does not start.

RESOLUTION

Continue the installation, and then join the computer to the domain again after the Repair-mode upgrade is completed.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
