SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to manage fonts on your computer, you may see the following behaviors:
  • When you attempt to add fonts, you may receive an error message similar to the following:
Windows cannot install the fontname (TrueType) font. There may be too many fonts installed, or the font file may be damaged.

Uninstall some fonts before installing new ones, or check with your font vendor about obtaining a new file.
You receive this error message even though you have fewer than 800 fonts installed.
  • When you attempt to view a font, the font viewer does not open. You are unable to preview the font. (To view a font, double-click the font in the Fonts tool in Control Panel.)
  • After you remove fonts, Windows reports an incorrect number of installed fonts. For example, if you reduce the number of installed fonts to 600, Windows may report that you have 800.
