Permissions on the MOM Reporting Database Can Cause Problems (312185)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Operations Manager 2000

This article was previously published under Q312185

SYMPTOMS

If you do not have NTFS Read and Write permissions on the Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) Reporting database (Eearept.mdb) and you try to save a report as HTML from a command line, the following symptoms may occur:
  • You do not receive an error message stating that you do not have permissions.
  • The data.snp file is not created and you do not receive a message stating that the file was not created because of security permissions.
  • A "success" event is written to the Application event log.

CAUSE

If NTFS permissions are explicitly set on the Eearept.mdb file, MOM cannot save changes that you make to the file (such as saving a report in HTML format).

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, change the NTFS permissions on the Eearept.mdb file in the Microsoft Operations Manager 2000\OnePoint\Reporting folder to assign Read and Write permissions to the appropriate user accounts.
