Mobile Message Queuing client may have incorrect site information (311936)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Message Queuing 2.0

This article was previously published under Q311936

SYMPTOMS

After you move a client computer from one site to another, you may experience delayed responses when Microsoft Message Queuing, also known as MSMQ, does the following:
  • Opens queues
  • Performs lookups
  • Updates its Message Queuing objects

CAUSE

Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2) contained a fix for the Message Queuing service that reduced the load on domain controllers. This fix incorrectly suppressed the building of the site servers list after a change of the address of a mobile client. By not updating the server list, a mobile Message Queuing client continues to go to its previous site server for any queries or updates until the next scheduled refresh interval. Depending on the topology, this may result in a lengthier time for the Message Queuing service to:
  • Access Active Directory.
  • Opens queues.
  • Performs lookups.
  • Perform updates to the Message Queuing configuration of that computer.

RESOLUTION

In the following resolution, the query to rebuild the server list is performed whenever the IP address for a Message Queuing computer changes.

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows 2000 service pack that contains this hotfix.

To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the fix. For a complete list of Microsoft Product Support Services phone numbers and information about support costs, visit the following Microsoft Web site:NOTE: In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for support calls may be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional determines that a specific update will resolve your problem. The typical support costs will apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for the specific update in question.
