ACC2000: Access Stops Responding When You Open a Linked Visual FoxPro Table (311763)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Access 2000, when used with:
- the operating system: Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 SP6
This article was previously published under Q311763 Moderate: Requires basic macro, coding, and interoperability skills.
This article applies to a Microsoft Access database (.mdb) and to a Microsoft Access project (.adp).
SYMPTOMS
When you open a linked table that was created in Microsoft Visual FoxPro, Access may stop responding if the following conditions are true:
- You selected a unique index when you linked the table.
- You linked the table with an Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) data source name (DSN), using the Visual FoxPro ODBC driver.
The same table may open successfully on a computer that runs Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, or Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition (SE).
CAUSE
This issue can occur if the unique index that you selected when you linked the table contains duplicate values.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, link the table again but without selecting a unique index. However, note that this method returns a non-updateable recordset when you open the linked table.
