This article was previously published under Q311734 SYMPTOMS
When the ArpAlwaysSourceRoute registry value is set, all packets that are sent by using a Token Ring interface should contain source routing information. Occasionally, however, packets without source routing information may be transmitted, even if ArpAlwaysSourceRoute is set.
This may cause computers that receive these packets to lose connectivity because they may update their cache and send subsequent return traffic without source routing information.
Transmitting Token Ring traffic without source routing information when it is required results in packets not reaching their destinations, TCP/IP time-outs, and dropped TCP/IP connections.
CAUSE
A change in Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 introduced a new code path that did not check for ArpAlwaysSourceRoute before transmitting a packet. This new code path has been modified to use the ArpAlwaysSourceRoute value and send packets with the correct source routing information if ArpAlwaysSourceRoute is set.
