Problems When You Use Creative Labs Remote Center with Certain CD-ROMs (311160)

SYMPTOMS

When you log on to your Windows XP-based computer, you may receive a Dr. Watson fault error message that refers to the Rcenter.exe file.

If you view the data that the error report contains, the following error signature information is displayed:

CAUSE

This issue can occur if the following conditions exist:
  • The Creative Labs Remote Center program (Rcenter.exe) is installed on your computer.
  • When you started your computer, you had a CD-ROM in your CD-ROM drive that had one or more files without file extensions in the root folder of the CD-ROM.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, obtain and install the most current Windows Compatibility Update from the Critical Updates section of the following Microsoft Web site:

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, do not start your computer if a CD-ROM that has one or more files without file extensions in the root folder of the CD-ROM is in your CD-ROM drive.
