OFF2001: Cannot Open Works 4 Spreadsheet, Painting, or Database Documents in Office 2001 (310097)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office 2001 for Mac
This article was previously published under Q310097 SYMPTOMS
When you try to open a Microsoft Works 4.0 Spreadsheet, Database, or Painting file in Office 2001, you may be unable to do so, even though the optional Works 4.0 converter is installed correctly from the Value Pack.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur because the optional Works 4.0 converter in the Office 2001 Value Pack converts only Works 4.0 word-processing documents. It does not convert other Works 4.0 file formats.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior so that you can open Microsoft Works 4.0 Spreadsheet, Database, or Painting files, try the following methods:
- Save the Spreadsheet document as an Excel 5.0 file from Works 4.0.
- Save the Database document as a tab-delimited file from Works 4.0.
- Save the Painting file in the Macintosh Picture (PICT) format from Works 4.0.
- Try using DataViz, Inc. MacLink Plus to translate the Works file into an Office 2001 file format.
- Try to open the Works files in other spreadsheet, database, and painting programs. Select the File menu, and then click Open.
