To start page numbering at 1 on page 2 in Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, use the steps appropriate for your version of Word.

Word Versions 6.x, 98

1. Follow these steps to insert a section break between pages 1 and 2 of the document:
   
   
   1. Move the insertion point to the end of page 1.
   2. Click Break on the Insert menu, and select Next Page section break.
   3. Click OK.
2. Position the insertion point below the section break.
3. On the View menu, click Header and Footer.
4. Position the insertion point in the header or footer, depending on where you want to place the page numbers.
   
   NOTE: You can press the tab key once to center the page number or you can press the tab key twice to right align the page number.
5. From the Header and Footer toolbar, click the Same As Previous button to disconnect the header or footer from the previous section.
   
   NOTE: By default, the Same As Previous button will be selected.
6. Click the Insert Page Number button on the Header and Footer toolbar.
7. On the Insert menu, click Page Numbers, and click the Format button.
8. Under Page Numbering, select Start At, and type 1 in the box.
9. Click OK twice.

Word 3.0x, 4.0, 5.0, 5.1

1. Insert a section break between pages 1 and 2 of the document by placing the insertion point at the appropriate point and pressing COMMAND+ENTER.
2. Position the insertion point above the section break.
3. On the Format menu, click Section.
4. Make sure that Section Start is set at No Break and Page Numbering is not selected.
5. Click OK.
6. Position the insertion point below the section break.
7. On the Format menu, click Section.
8. Select New Page for Section Start.
9. Select the Restart At 1 option and the Page Numbering option, or use the page number option in the header or footer for that section, and click OK.

NOTE: A section break in Word versions 5.0 and later default to No Break.

Word 1.x

1. Insert a division mark between pages 1 and 2 of the document by placing the insertion point at the appropriate point and pressing COMMAND+ENTER.
2. Position the insertion point above the division mark.
3. On the Document menu, click Division Layout.
4. Under Break, click Continuous. Make sure that Auto Page Numbering is not selected.
5. Click OK.
6. Position the insertion point below the division mark.
7. On the Document menu, click Division Layout.
8. Under Break, choose Page.
9. Select Auto Page Numbering, and type a 1 next to Start Page Numbers At, and click OK.
